'One of the best in the world': PM Modi's Russia visit speeds up delivery of 120 super long-range surface-to-air missiles; will give edge over Pakistan – Times of India

India is going to receive a consignment of 120 highly advanced weapons. Surface-to-air missiles from Russia, after the Prime Minister Narendra ModiIndian President Vladimir Putin, who recently visited Moscow for the annual summit, said these missiles will significantly enhance India's military capabilities and give it an edge over Pakistan.

However, Prime Minister Modi's visit to Moscow provided the necessary political impetus to expedite the delivery of pending defence supplies, including the remaining two S-400 systems from Russia.

According to sources, the surface-to-air missiles being provided by Russia are considered to be among the most advanced missiles in the world with a range of around 400 kilometres.
An expert stressed that Russia has consistently met India's defence needs at crucial times and the acquisition of these missiles is important to maintain an edge over Pakistan.
In 2019, India and Russia had signed a deal to procure five squadrons of the advanced air defence system, which has the capability to hit targets at ranges up to 400 kilometres.
So far, Russia has supplied three of these air defence systems to India, which have been made operational and deployed along the country’s borders with China and Pakistan.
Initially, the delivery of the remaining two squadrons was expected to be completed by 2024. However, there have been delays due to Russia's internal challenges and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
