“Gradually, the number of dual-screen buyers is increasing as these devices are aspirational, offer bigger screen sizes for viewing content and are innovative,” Raju Pullam, senior vice-president for Samsung's India mobile business, told the Times of India. “We are seeing a lot of consumer upgrades to dual screens, especially in the Rs 30,000-50,000 segment.”
According to IDC, about one million foldable phones were sold in India last year, a small number in the 146 million units sold overall. However, companies say adoption will only accelerate from here as content consumption and faster networks like 5G drive people to bigger screens.
“Foldable smartphones offer larger displays, making work and entertainment more accessible and enjoyable. This new form factor also caters to the aspirations and style of customers. Potential buyers of foldable devices are those who not only want a premium smartphone experience but also want a device that enables efficient multitasking for long hours along with primary tasks like photography,” a Vivo official said on condition of anonymity. “The demand for specific form factors like foldable phones is expected to continue to grow.”
