Ormax Media Malayalam films contributed 19% of the total box office collection of Rs 3,791 crore across India during this period, told ET. Industry experts attribute the success of Malayalam films to their diverse content, which is further bolstered by a weak line-up in other languages, including Hindi. Malayalam films are gaining significant momentum beyond their traditional markets of Kerala and the UAE.
Mukesh Mehta, founder of E4 Entertainment and producer of several Malayalam films, said films like Manjummel Boys, Aadujeevitham and Aavesham presented unique stories to the audience.
Blockbuster year for Malayalam films

Despite being produced on a much lower budget than other South Indian languages and Hindi films, Malayalam films commanded a larger share of the box office collections than Tamil, which had a 13% share.
According to a report by film trade website Sakcinlk, Malayalam films have grossed Rs 406 crore outside India.
Commenting on the recent success of Malayalam cinema, Nithin Menon, Co-Founder of NV Capital said, “Malayalam cinema has delivered several hits in the last few months, and some films have even touched the magical number of Rs 100 crore, which was not common in Malayalam cinema until last year.”
